My Favorite Birthday Tradition

September 20, 2010 § 2 Comments

On the occasion of Nero’s 21st birthday, the Praetorian Guard surprised their leader with a wondrous gift. In the center of the coliseum stood 21 virgins tied to wooden posts. As Nero gleefully watched, the virgins were simultaneously set a fire like candles atop a birthday cake, an ancient Roman tradition. It was said that not a single scream was heard from the women as they burned, but through the flames a feint murmur was heard as they sung to their leader an ancient Grecian birthday song.

I expect nothing less from you.

Happy Birthday.
